Memphis Virtual School
Memphis Virtual School (MVS) offers students in grades 6th through 12th expanded academic options through online courses. Students may take up to two additional courses per semester while enrolled in their home school or enroll full-time and complete all courses in a virtual environment.
MVS allows students to work at their own pace with guidance from an online instructor. Students enrolled in online courses may work at home, at school, in the library, or anywhere else there is a computer with high-speed Internet service.
All courses are broken into modules that include ongoing online discussions, research, project work, readings, collaboration activities, and multi-mode assessments. Online instructors must hold a current teaching license and are trained to deliver instruction using the Blackboard Learn learning management system.
Online learning is predominantly asynchronous. Online instructors are available to assist students during their posted office hours. However, students can progress throughout the course without being online simultaneously with their instructor. Within the Blackboard Learn system, a student can send messages or inquires to the online instructor. All correspondence is answered within a 24-hour window.
