Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA is the application required for Tennessee Promise, the Hope scholarship, and federal grants/loans/work study. The student and one parent are required to obtain a FSA ID prior to applying. Both the FSA ID and FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov. More information: FAFSA INFO

Early Action (EA) and Early Decision (ED) are both early application options for college admission that have different agreements between the student and the college:

    • Early Action (EA)
A non-binding agreement, meaning students who are accepted are not required to attend the school. Students can still decide to attend the school or not until the normal reply date of May 1.

    • Early Decision (ED)
A binding agreement, meaning students who are accepted are required to attend the school. Most schools require students who are accepted Early Decision to withdraw applications from other colleges.

Both EA and ED have application deadlines that are earlier than the typical Regular Decision deadline, and notifications are usually sent within eight weeks.

Some benefits of applying early include:

    • Improved chance of admission: Applying early can increase your chances of getting into a school.

    • Reduced stress: Applying early can reduce the stress, time, and expense spent on applications.

    • Compare financial aid packages: Applying early can allow you to compare financial aid packages and other offers.

Applying early can be a good idea if you're sure about which college you want to attend. However, you might want to think twice about applying early if you want to compare admission and financial aid offers from several colleges.

Don't forget! If you are using the Common App you must send Mrs. Humphries your student resume!

CSS Profile- The CSS Profile is an online application used by college and scholarship programs to award non-federal institutional aid. Not all colleges use the CSS but if they do, it is a long and tedious process. The application opened October 1st. This is a very long but helpful video if you need assistance with completion of the application: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11NynT6t1Ec
