Get creative in your scholarship search!
*Does your workplace offer scholarships to children of employees?
*Does your college offer alumni scholarships to children of graduates?
*Is your child a first generation college student? Ask the college(s) he or she is considering if they have a first generation scholarship program.
*If your child knows his or her major, consider asking about departmental scholarships.
*Explore options from your church and community organizations.
*Considering an unusual major? See if it is available through the Academic Common Market, an agreement with the Southern Regional Education Board that offers in-state tuition to out-ofstate schools for students who are majoring in an area not offered by an in-state public school. To explore more, go to https://www.sreb.org/academic-common-market.

*Don't overlook ROTC scholarships even if you have never been in ROTC.
*Start searching as soon as possible. If you wait until spring to start searching, you will miss half the deadlines.
*Prioritize your application by deadline and the expected value of the scholarship
*Use a calendar and checklist to get organized
*Create a student resume
*Make your application and essay stand out from the crowd
