  • ESL Program

    Questions on the Primary Home Language Survey, completed during registration, ask about a student’s home language.  If any of the answers are a language other than English, the student is classified as having a non-English language background (NELB) and assessed for English language proficiency.  The assessment will determine if the student will receive services. Parents will receive a Parent Notification Letter which states the student’s assessment score and outlines the service the student will receive. Students at the beginning and intermediate levels of English proficiency will receive a minimum of one hour per day of services provided by a highly qualified ESL teacher.  Students at higher proficiency levels, may receive instruction tailored to their needs.
