Arts and Music
The importance of the arts in education and its power to impact lives is undeniable. The arts make us more empathetic, compassionate, thoughtful, and engaged. Learning the fine arts has benefits for children that ripple far beyond any single performance or painting.
Students who participate in the arts are much more likely to attend school regularly, feel self-confident, Be student leaders, and Graduate from college.
Yet, the unfortunate reality is many children, particularly those in economically disadvantaged communities, never experience meaningful arts education. Despite overwhelming research showing that investments in the arts lead to academic success and long-term financial stability for low-income children, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to prioritize time and resources to the fine arts.
Two-thirds of public school teachers believe that the arts are getting crowded out of the school day by other tested subjects.
Because of this, African-American and Hispanic students are significantly less likely to have access to a fine art class, and this is especially true for those students in poverty-
Those who could benefit the most from arts education are receiving the least.
By sharing the stories of our students and teachers whose lives have been changed by the arts – and calling attention to the obstacles in making high quality arts instruction available in all schools – we hope to inspire our community to help us create more access for all children, regardless of their background or income. By supporting our campaign, you are increasing access to critical fine art supplies and learning opportunities that many of our students wouldn’t otherwise get. Your donation will help ensure we are able to meet the needs of our students, whenever they arise. We can rent scripts for musicals, fix broken trombones, buy mirrors and barres, purchase canvases and clay, expand programs through arts partnerships and so much more.
