Welcome to English IV – Introduction from Ms. Sallie Pendley

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Sallie Pendley, and I am excited to introduce myself as your student’s English IV teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your child during this pivotal year as they prepare for graduation and their next steps in life.

A little about myself: I grew up in Brookhaven, MS, and completed my undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University, where I earned my degree in elementary education in 2016. Recently, I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in May 2024 with a graduate degree in Educational Leadership. This is my seventh-year teaching at Overton, where I previously taught 8th grade for two years at Ridgeway Middle School.

Throughout this year, I will be guiding your students through a curriculum designed to challenge and engage them in critical thinking, literary analysis, and effective communication. My goal is to foster a supportive and stimulating learning environment where each student can reach their full potential.

As part of our efforts to prepare students for life after graduation, we will dedicate time in class to applying to colleges and scholarships. September is Free College Application Month, and we’ll focus on submitting college applications during that time. In October, we will work on completing FAFSA information with the help of Mrs. Kelley.

Please continue asking to see your student's "Senior Class of 2025" team on Microsoft Teams, as this is where I post many scholarship opportunities, college visit information, and other important updates related to senior year and post-graduation plans. I will keep you informed about various senior-related events and deadlines throughout the year.

I believe that communication between home and school is crucial to your student’s success, and I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year. Espero que este correo los encuentre bien. Mi nombre es Sallie Pendley, y estoy emocionada de presentarme como la profesora de Inglés IV de su estudiante para el año escolar 2024-2025. Estoy encantada de tener la oportunidad de trabajar con su hijo/a durante este año crucial mientras se preparan para la graduación y sus próximos pasos en la vida.

Un poco sobre mí: Crecí en Brookhaven, MS, y completé mis estudios de pregrado en la Universidad Estatal de Mississippi, donde obtuve mi título en educación primaria en 2016. Recientemente, me gradué de la Universidad de Cincinnati en mayo de 2024 con un título de posgrado en Liderazgo Educativo. Como parte de nuestros esfuerzos para preparar a los estudiantes para la vida después de la graduación, dedicaremos tiempo en clase a la solicitud de ingreso a universidades y becas. Septiembre es el Mes de Solicitud Gratuita para la Universidad, y nos centraremos en enviar solicitudes universitarias durante ese tiempo. En octubre, trabajaremos en completar la información de FAFSA con la ayuda de la Sra. Kelley.
