  • Announcements for February 28th                                              

    • Students and teachers, due to a rash of recent unapproved announcements, only ones sent BY THE ADULT SUPERVISOR will be added to the morning announcements.
    • It’s time to get GROWING,Spartans! Be sure to visit the White Station Seed Library this week. Did you know it’s time to start tomatoes, peppers, and herb plants INDOORS in order to be planted outside in April? Sugar snap peas can be planted directly outdoors now. Spruce Up Sparta has stocked the seed library with all of these seeds. So visit the Seed Library in the Main Library and get your FREE seeds today!
    • Juniors with an ACT composite score of 21 who want to take Dual Enrollment English next year should come to a brief interest meeting TODAY during your lunch in E305. 
    • Calling all Juniors. If you are interested in attending an HBCU or learning more information about them, then sign up for the HBCU College Tour fieldtrip TOMORROW. You must register online and complete a permission slip (due Wednesday). Please see Mr. Waller (218B) for more information or the yellow fliers posted around the school. Space is limited.
    • Felcia Orr, TSAC Director of College Access will be on campus TOMORROW 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in E205 and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the library to offer direct assistance to students and parents with completing the FAFSA. Students must know their social security number to create a FAFSA ID to start the process. The system requires at least one parent’s social security number, date of birth, and email address. The FAFSA is the only application for the Hope Scholarship, Promise Scholarship, and government financial aid.
    • The due date for submissions to the third annual LaRose Todd Prize for Creative Writing for juniors and seniors with a grand prize of $500 has been extended to March 5th. Submissions in the genres of fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry should be kept to 3,000 words, and they can either be dropped off in E304 to Mr. Richmond. Please follow all instructions on the flyers.
    • Are you interested in Social Media Marketing and Management, Content Creation, Graphic Design, or Digital Media? Looking to pursue a degree in Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, or other related paths? Want to help revamp the school’s media presence? Join the BRAND NEW Spartan Communications Team! This opportunity is open to students in the 9th-11th grade (sorry seniors). All interested students should plan to attend the Interest Meeting on Tuesday, March 5th in Room M122.     • The Track & Field Team represented well this weekend at the TN Indoor State Championship! The following athletes came home with medals from the meet: Kassidy DavisMadison Kemp, Arianna Riley, Jarryn Lowe, Anthony Taylor... and Amora Lowe who is the new State Champion in the Triple Jump! Congratulations, Spartans and good luck on the Outdoor Season!
    • Congratulations to following art students for being 2024 FINALISTS in the Memphis International Airport Art Contest. Over a Million travellers will have a chance to view their work in the upcoming year! Trexler Townley Bakewell, Alzahra AlterebSunny CuiAngel Cruz , and Mikey Graves.

    • Catherine Chang, a talented 16-year-old flutist from WSHS, has won first place in the Brass/Woodwinds category at the Lois Pickard Concerto Competition, earning a $1,500 scholarship. Well done, Catherine! We're so proud and excited for what's next in your musical journey. Bravo!

    Announcements for February 16th                                           

    • Congratulations to the juniors and seniors who have been invited to apply for National Honor Society on TEAMS. If you are a junior or a senior with a cumulative weighted 3.85 GPA and have NOT received a TEAMS invitation, email Dr. Robbins at robbinsc@scsk12.org.
    • Good luck to the JROTC Armed Drill Team, the Unarmed Drill Team, and the Color Guard, who will compete TOMORROW in the annual City-wide Drill Meet. Everyone is invited to attend at the Air National Guard on 4593 Swinnea Road.
    • If you are interested in backstage work, lighting, sound, or any other aspect of Technical Theatre.     • From the Red Cross IHL Campaign, here are your weekly International Humanitarian Law Announcement. The 4 Principles of international humanitarian laws are military necessity, distinction, proportionality, and limiting unnecessary suffering. These principles ensure that military acts are necessary to defeat their enemy (within IHL), distinguish allowed targets (combatants) vs. those that aren’t (civilians non-combatants/medical personnel), prioritize that civilians and their areas can’t purposefully be part of an attack, and ensure methods of warfare are for strategic means, not to cause unnecessary harm.

We had multiple champions in different divisions Keegan Mainers, Khadim Camara, Raleih Chew, Shelby Shorter, Jamaya Simpson, Amirah Alshujaa, and Girls SCIAA MVP Wynesha Neil. Spartan Wrestling is on the rise and looking to continue the momentum on Thursday against Cordova and Central

    • Over the break, Spartan Wrestling did it again! They competed 3 times and ran over the competition. We had multiple tournament champions and we made history by winning the first EVER SPARTANS WOMENS WRESTLING DUAL MEET! Tonight they keep the ball rolling at Munford Middle school against Munford High and SBA at 7 o‘clock. You don't want to miss Spartan wrestling in action! 
    • Please let's give recognition to Dakota Carter on being selected student/athlete of the month way to represent all student/athletes at WSHS. Dakota will be bowling this Saturday in the SCIAA individual tournament let's wish him well.

    • Attention Seniors : You should have received a letter regarding senior fees. Senior fees can be paid online at jostens.com now through March 19th. All fees must be paid by the deadline.  If you did not receive the letter, please ask your English teacher for it or pick one up from the main office.  Jostens will be here TODAY during all lunches to take cash only payments if you cannot pay online. Senior Fees are $140.  We encourage all seniors to pay online.
